Our Ranch

Caerleon Ranch is a small family-owned and run operation dedicated to producing high quality Rocky Mountain Horses and Labrador Retrievers. We are located in the Gold Country of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and are surrounded by beautiful countryside and some of most scenic horse trails in California.

On the Labrador front, we have been showing dogs of sound mind and body in both AKC conformation and hunt tests since 1987. Our dogs are bench champions, junior, senior, and master hunters, competitors in field trials, hunting companions, obedience champions, therapy dogs and most importantly, good family members. We produce mainly yellow and black puppies under the Caerleon name and also with under our joint venture with DryCreek Labradors using the CaerCreek name.

Shake Rocky Mountain horses are the quintessential trail/equine partner. They are gentle, good-minded and willing to please in addition to that smooth, natural, 4-beat gait. In many ways, they are like the Labrador of the horse world!

Our journey with Mountain horses started with the purchase of 2 geldings – Shooter and JJ – from our now good friend Pam Higgins. We were hooked. As our kids finished college and we had a bit a lot more free time, we decided to use our knowledge of breeding Labradors to produce Rocky Mountain horses that are sound, possess good conformation, and that mellow, willing temperament. We added several mares to our herd and had our first foal crop in 2014 – learned so much and had a blast. Check out our horses to see what we’ve got or better yet – come up to visit.
